Title: FCC Indecency Penalties Bill

Vote to pass a bill that would allow the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to levy fines for every airing of "indecent, obscene or profane" material by a broadcaster, up to a maximum of $500,000.

  • Provides that fines may be levied on both networks and individual entertainers (Sec. 3).
  • Establishes a 180-day time frame from the date of the complaint to determine if the incident was 'indecent' (Sec. 5).
  • Provides that the FCC shall hold hearings on the revocation of a broadcaster's license following the third offense under the provisions of this act (Sec. 9).
