Title: Special Elections/Appointments Provisions Bill
Vote to adopt a joint resolution proposing a constitutional amendment requiring members of the House of Representatives to present the chief executive of their state with at least two nominees to take their place in the event of their incapacity or death.
- Allows for Representatives to revise the list at any time (Sec. 1).
- Allows Congress to establish the criteria for determining whether a member of Congress is dead or incapacitated (Sec. 4).
NOTE: AN AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION REQUIRES TWO-THIRDS APPROVAL IN EACH CHAMBER OF CONGRESS, AND RATIFICATION BY THREE-FOURTHS OF THE STATE LEGISLATURES WITHIN SEVEN YEARS OF THE DATE THE AMENDMENT WAS SUBMITTED.
