Title: Greater Access to Affordable Pharmaceuticals Act
Vote to pass a bill that would institute procedures for the introduction of generic drugs into the prescription drug market and would also allow importation of prescription drugs from Canada into the United States.
- Grants brand-name drug companies one 30-month extension of the right to exclusive sales if the Food & Drug Administration approves a competitor's generic drug patent.
- Authorizes the Secretary of Health and Human Services to permit pharmacists and wholesalers to import prescription drugs from Canada into the United States.
- Requires Canadian importers and wholesalers to register with the Department of Health and Human Services.
- Authorizes individuals to import drugs from Canada, provided that the prescriptions they acquire are for individual use and do not exceed a 90 day dosage.
