Vote to pass a bill that would ensure steel imports do not exceed the average monthly volume of imported steel from July 1994 to July 1997.

Highlights:
  • Directs the President to negotiate enforceable voluntary export restraints, set temporary tariff surcharges or impose import quotas on steel for the next 3 years.
  • Directs the Secretary of Commerce to establish and implement a steel import notification and monitoring program.
  • Restricts importation of the following steel products: plates, sheets and strips, wire rods, wire and wire products, rail type products, bars, structural shapes and units, pipes and tubes, iron ore, and coke products.
