Title: Human Rights in China
Vote to adopt a resolution urging the President to support a resolution on the human rights situation in China at next session of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights.
- Recognizes the serious human rights violations in China including, but not limited to, forced abortion and sterilization, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrest and detention, and the use of torture.
- Acknowledges that human rights violations have been prominent in minority areas, including Tibet and Xinjiang.
- Insists that the President and Secretary of State press for passage of a resolution on China's human rights violations at the 54th Session of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights.
- Urges all member countries of the Commission to support such a resolution.
NOTE: THIS VOTE WAS TAKEN UNDER A SUSPENSION OF THE RULES TO CUT OFF DEBATE EARLY AND VOTE TO PASS THE BILL, THEREBY REQUIRING A TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY FOR PASSAGE.
