Title: Patient Protection bill
Vote to pass a bill reforming health care practices with group health plans, HMOs, and other collective health organizations.
- Allows patients to designate their gynecologist, obstetrician, or pediatric doctor as their primary care giver.
- Requires health plans to cover emergency services as expected by a 'prudent layperson'.
- Permits health care providers to give advice to patients without restrictions from health plans.
- Removes many restrictions on medical savings accounts, such as limiting the number of such accounts and who can have one.
- Limits the amount of non-economic damages received in malpractice lawsuits to $250,000 while allowing states to adjust this limit.
