Title: Campaign Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1998
Vote to pass a bill that requires detailed reporting of campaign contributions by candidates and to increase the amount of information the Federal Election Commission makes available to the public.
- Gives each political committee 24 hours to notify the Federal Election Commission and the State Department of any individual contribution made within 90 days of the election.
- Mandates that each political committee report the candidate's name, the office sought, the identification of the contributor, the date, and the amount contributed within 1 day of receiving an individual contribution.
- Compels the Federal Election Commission to file contribution information electronically immediately upon receiving it.
- Requires the Federal Election Commission to respond publicly to questions and complaints about campaign finance law.
- Bans cash contributions greater than $100.
NOTE: THIS VOTE WAS TAKEN UNDER A SUSPENSION OF THE RULES TO CUT OFF DEBATE EARLY AND VOTE TO PASS THE BILL, THEREBY REQUIRING A TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY FOR PASSAGE.
