Vote to pass a bill that would allow the President to negotiate trade agreements with trade objectives set by Congress.
Highlight: -Authorizes the President to enter into trade agreements with foreign countries when existing duties or import restrictions are impeding the foreign trade of the United States. -Gives the President fast track authority on certain trade legislation. -Gives the President this authority until October 1, 2001 or September 30, 2005, if Congress extends the authority. -Requires the President to submit details of trade agreements to Congress and the International Trade Commission. -States that United States trade negotiations should agree with the priorities of the United States, including environmental preservation, rights of workers and children, and protection of intellectual property. -Requires the United States Trade Representative to consult with congressional advisers on trade policy and negotiations.
