Title: Defense Department FY98-99 Authorization bill

Vote to pass a bill that appropriates $275.42 billion for military spending on defense programs, personnel salary, construction projects, and other purposes.
Changes bonuses and salaries of armed forces personnel including authorization of special pay to those working at a designated hardship duty locations.
Increases monthly hazardous duty incentive pay.
Raises salary 2.8 percent for all members of uniformed services.
Increases family separation allowance pay from $75 to $100.
Expresses Congressional opposition to participation of U.S. ground combat forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina after June 30, 1998.
$8.95 billion for construction projects by the military.
$4.6 billion for the Secretary of the Navy to procure a CVN-77 class nuclear aircraft carrier.
$3.7 billion for programs improving ballistic-missile defense systems including $406 million for the Theater High Altitude Air Defense system.
$700.36 million to the National Guard and reserves for equipment purchases.
$382 million for the demilitarization and removal of nuclear weapons from the former Soviet Union.
$331 million available to improve and modify existing B-2 Stealth bomber aircraft.
