Vote to adopt a resolution declaring the sense of Congress that the public display of the Ten Commandments should be permitted in government offices and courthouses.
- States that the Ten Commandments have "a significant impact on the development of the fundamental legal principles of Western Civilization" by setting a code of moral conduct and promoting respect for the laws of the United States.
- States that the Ten Commandments are a "declaration of fundamental principles that are the cornerstones of a fair and just society".
- States that the public display of the Ten Commandments should be permitted in government offices and courthouses.
NOTE: THIS VOTE WAS TAKEN UNDER A SUSPENSION OF THE RULES TO CUT OFF DEBATE EARLY AND VOTE TO PASS THE BILL, THEREBY REQUIRING A TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY FOR PASSAGE.
