Title: Iraq War Crimes Tribunal
Vote to adopt a resolution condemning the Iraqi Government for repeated violations of human rights and abuses of power and calling upon the President and Secretary of State to formally endorse an international war crimes tribunal for the purpose of prosecuting Iraqi officials involved in crimes against humanity.
- Denounces the Iraqi government's repeated violations of human rights, as well as the use of weapons of mass destruction against the Iraqi people.
- Recognizes the refusal of the government of Iraq to comply with international human rights instruments, despite being a signatory to several, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
- Supports the formation of an international war crimes tribunal for the purpose of prosecuting Iraqi officials involved in crimes against humanity.
- Endorses a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for the establishment of an International Criminal Court for Iraq.
NOTE: THIS VOTE WAS TAKEN UNDER A SUSPENSION OF THE RULES TO CUT OFF DEBATE EARLY AND VOTE TO PASS THE BILL, THEREBY REQUIRING A TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY FOR PASSAGE.
