Title: Term Limits bill
Vote to invoke cloture on a joint resolution proposing a constitutional amendment limiting Congressional terms to six full terms for House members, and two full terms for Senators.
- Limits House members to 6 full terms.
- Limits Senators to 2 full terms.
- Declares any member of the House serving more than 1 year of a term to which another person was elected eligible for only 5 more terms.
- Declares any Senator serving more than 3 years of a term to which another person was elected eligible for only 1 more term.
- Exempts time served in Congress before ratification.
NOTE: INVOKING CLOTURE REQUIRES A 3/5 MAJORITY OF THE SENATE. IT IS NOT A VOTE ON THE PASSAGE OF THE PIECE OF LEGISLATION, BUT LIMITS FURTHER DEBATE TO 30 HOURS. CLOTURE IS TYPICALLY USED TO END A FILIBUSTER. A FAILED CLOTURE VOTE OFTEN PREVENTS THE LEGISLATION FROM EVER COMING TO A VOTE.
