Title: Public Rangelands Management Act of 1996

Vote to pass a bill that revises policy for allowing livestock to graze on federal land.

Highlights:
  • Requires a 12 year permit for livestock to graze on federal land.
  • Determines the grazing fee be calculated on the basis of an average value of beef production over a specified time and over a longer time period, an average rate for US Treasury Securities.
  • Requires that the land use plan to adhere to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969.
  • Requires that affected interests to be notified at least 30 days prior to a final decision in the land use plan change and provide opportunity for informal consultation on grazing permits or range improvements.
