Title: Housing for Older Persons Act of 1995

Vote to pass a bill that amends the Fair Housing Act's definition for housing for older persons.

Highlights:
  • Exempts communities that provide housing for older persons from housing discrimination laws if at least 80 percent of occupied units are occupied by at least 1 person over the age of 55.
  • Eliminates a provision that requires exempt housing to have "significant facilities and services," such as buses, walkways, and other facilities designed for older residents.
  • Exempts an individual from monetary damages for violation of the Fair Housing Act if the person made a good faith attempt to comply.
