A vote to pass a bill that requires individuals to use bathrooms and changing facilities that match the gender on their birth certificate, effective September 1, 2017.

Highlights:

• Requires any multiple-occupancy bathroom or changing facility inside a public building, such as a school, to be designated for and used only by individuals of the same biological sex, unless those buildings are leased, rented, or owned by a private entity (Sec. 2 & Sec. 4).

• Defines biological sex as the physical condition of being male or female, which is stated on an individual’s birth certificate (Sec. 4).

• Prohibits localities from adopting or enforcing any ordinance or other measure that regulates the use of a private entity’s bathroom or changing facility (Sec. 2).

• Authorizes school districts and localities to provide accommodations that do not involve multiple-occupancy bathrooms, including single-occupancy bathrooms (Sec. 4).
