Title: Appropriates Funds for Education

Vote to pass a bill that appropriates funds for education.

Highlights:

  • Appropriates funds to school districts with a population greater than 500,000 from a variety of sources including, but not limited to, the following funds (Sec. 940):
    • 37% of the funds from the Early Childhood Education Block Grant; and
    • 48.4% of funds appropriated by the General Assembly for payments to school districts for special education purposes.
  • Appropriates funds from the Common School Fund to the Public School Teachers' Pension and Retirement Fund of Chicago on a monthly basis in an amount equal to the difference between all other state contributions to that fund and the vouchers submitted for state contributions (Sec. 920).
  • Repeals the current general state aid formula, low income student funding formula, and current allocations for special education and English language learning programs (Sec. 940).
  • Establishes a new primary state aid formula (Sec. 940).
