Title: Prohibits Driving in Left Lane without Passing Other Vehicles

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits an individual from driving in the left lane of a multi-lane highway except to pass other vehicles, effective July 1, 2016.

Highlights:

 

  •  Prohibits an individual from driving in the passing lane on interstate and divided highways with 3 or more lanes, unless when passing other vehicles (Sec. 2).
  • Exempts an individual from the provisions of this bill in certain cases including, but not limited to, the following cases (Sec. 2):
    • The individual is unable to safely merge into a non-passing lane due to traffic;
    • The non-passing lane is obstructed or hazardous;
    • The passing lane has a necessary exit or left turn; or
    • The individual is the operator of an authorized emergency vehicle.
  • Establishes a civil fine of $50 for a violation of the provisions of this bill (Sec. 2).
