Title: Requires Overtime Pay for Farmworkers

Vote to pass a bill that requires overtime pay for farmworkers, effective January 1, 2019.

Highlights:

  • Decreases the maximum number of hours per day and per week during which an individual may be regularly employed to the following amounts (Sec. 2):
    • 9.5 hours per day or 55 hours per week by January 1, 2019;
    • 9 hours per day or 50 hours per week by January 1, 2020; and 
    • 8 hours per day or 45 hours per week by January 1, 2021.
  • Specifies that an individual may be hired for more than the maximum number of hours authorized per day or per week if the individual receives 1.5 times the regular rate for all additional hours worked (Sec. 2).
  • Requires an agricultural employer to pay an individual twice his or her regular rate for all hours worked over 12 hours in a day, effective January 1, 2022 (Sec. 2).
  • Specifies that the Governor may suspend the provisions of this bill until January 1, 2022 (Sec. 2).
