Title: Authorizes Pharmacists to Prescribe Oral Contraceptives

Vote to pass a bill that authorizes pharmacists to prescribe and dispense oral contraceptives.

Highlights:

  • Authorizes a pharmacist to prescribe and dispense hormonal oral contraceptives to the following individuals (Sec. A):
    • An individual who is 18 years or older; or
    • An individual who is under 18 who has evidence of a previous prescription for oral contraceptives from a physician. 
  • Prohibits pharmacists from prescribing or dispensing hormonal oral contraceptives to individuals who do not have evidence of a visit to a women’s clinic within 3 years of the initial oral contraceptive prescription (Sec. A).
  • Specifies that all federal and state laws governing health insurance shall apply to hormonal oral contraceptives prescribed by a pharmacist (Sec. A).
