Title: Requires Public High Schools to Teach Students about Fetal Development During Pregnancy

Vote to pass a bill that requires public high schools to teach students in grades 9-12 about fetal development during pregnancy.

  • Requires the Department of Education to establish a program to educate students in grades 9 through 12 about “the humanity of a child in utero” by developing and distributing the following (Sec. 4):
    • Materials concerning the anatomical characteristics of a fetus at 2-week gestational intervals, including “Characteristics of the Unborn Child” available at www.awomansright.org;

    • Annually updated information about public and private agencies and services available to assist a woman through pregnancy, childbirth, and while the child is dependent;

    • Audiovisual media teaching that “abortion kills a living human being and is against public policy”;

    • Technology and training on abortion prevention for teachers, counselors, educational personnel, parents, public service personnel, and community leaders;

    • Secondary school curricula on abortion prevention and “unborn child humanity education”;

    • Ways to utilize television personalities and athletes to communicate these messages to students; and

    • Other programs about abortion prevention that do not discuss human sexuality.

  • Requires public schools operating at grade 9 or 10 to provide a unit of instruction containing this information during regular school hours (Sec. 5).
