Vote to pass a bill that authorizes voters to petition for a de-annexation referendum.

Highlights:

• Authorizes municipalities to hold a deannexation election if at least 10 percent of registered voters petition for an election to be held (Sec. 3).

• Requires the county election commission to schedule the election to coincide with the next citywide or countywide election, primary, or referendum that is held at least 45 days after the petitions for deannexation are filed with the commission (Sec. 3).

• Specifies that areas deannexed by a municipality on or after May 1, 1998 shall submit a map of the deannexed area to the commissioner of finance and administration for review (Sec. 1).
