Vote to pass a bill that authorizes an individual born before 1993 to access his or her adoption information, effective July 1, 2018.
Highlights:
- Authorizes an individual whose adoption was filed before December 31, 1993 to request the release of identifying information from agencies including, but not limited to, the state registrar, a licensed child placing agency, and the attorney who arranged the adoption (Sec. 13).
- Authorizes a birth parent to restrict access to identifying information concerning the birth parent by filing a contact preference form (Secs. 14).
- Specifies that a nonrelease form submitted by a birth parent before July 1, 2018 remains in effect for the duration indicated on the form (Sec. 17).
