Title: Prohibits Local Policies Preventing Immigration Status Inquiries

A vote to pass a bill that prohibits local governments from establishing policies that prohibit immigration status inquiries.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits a local government from establishing or enforcing a policy that prohibits an employee of the local government from taking any of the following actions (Sec. 1):
    • Inquiring as to the immigration status of an individual charged with a crime;
    • Cooperating with federal immigration services; and
    • Prohibiting federal officers from entering and conducting immigration enforcement activities in any building or facility under that local government.
  • Authorizes the Department of Revenue to reduce the amount of shared revenue payments to a local government that has violated the provisions of this bill by the following amounts (Sec. 1):
    • $500, if the population of the locality is less than 10,000;
    • $1,000, if the population of the locality is more than 10,000 but less than 100,000;
    • $2,000, if the population of the locality is more than 100,000 but less than 250,000; and
    • $5,000, if the population of the locality is 250,000 or more.
