Title: Authorizes Parents to Opt-Out of Standardized Tests for Their Children
Vote to pass a bill that authorizes parents to opt-out of standardized tests for their children
Specifies that a lack of assessment results for a child may not be counted against a school or factored into the various school assessment and funding initiatives used by the state (Sec. 2).
Authorizes school to use alternative assessments for students whose parents opt out in the following circumstances (Sec. 2):
If the student is in the third grade, an alternative reading assessment to determine if the student may be promoted out of the third grade; or
If the student attends a school that requires a certain score on a statewide assessments for high school graduation, an alternative assessment covering that portion of the graduation requirement.
