Vote to pass a bill that prohibits an employer from diverting or withholding employee wages, effective January 1, 2016.

Highlights:

• Prohibits an employer from diverting or withholding employee wages, unless the employer obtains written authorization from the employee for the deduction (Secs. 1 & 2).

• Requires an employer to notify, in writing, employees whose wages are determined based on a task, piece, mile or load (Sec. 3).

• Prohibits an employer from discharging, discriminating, or retaliating against employees or individuals who exercise rights provided in this bill (Sec. 9).

• Requires an employer to maintain and preserve for 3 calendar years the payroll records showing hours worked, wages earned, and deductions made for each employee (Sec. 3).
