Title: Prohibits Abortions After 20 Weeks

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits abortions after 20 weeks.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits an individual from purposely performing or inducing an abortion on a fetus with a post-fertilization age of 20 weeks or more (Sec. 1).
  • Authorizes a physician to perform or induce an abortion if the physician determines the abortion is necessary to prevent the death of the pregnant woman or to avoid risk of substantial and irreversible impairment of major bodily function (Sec. 1).
  • Prohibits a physician from performing an abortion after 20 weeks based on a woman’s mental health or a claim or diagnosis that the patient will otherwise engage in conduct that will cause her death or substantial and irreversible impairment of major bodily function (Sec. 1).
  • Specifies that if an individual or physician performs an abortion after 20 weeks of the post-fertilization age of the fetus, it will result in the following consequences (Sec. 1):
    • The individual or physician will be charged with a fourth degree felony; and 
    • The physician will have his or her license to practice medicine in the state revoked by the state medical board.
