Highlights:

  • Prohibits an employer from terminating, demoting, suspending, or discriminating against an employee with regard to promotion, compensation, or other terms in the following circumstances (Sec. 2):
    • The employee inquires about, discusses, or discloses information about his or her wages or the wages of another employee; or
    • The employee makes a charge, files a complaint, or causes an investigation, proceeding, hearing, or other action based on his or her disclosure of wage information.
  • Exempts an employee with access to wage information of employees as part of his or her position, who discloses the wages of other employees to unauthorized individuals, unless the disclosure is in response to a charge, complaint, investigation, proceeding, hearing, or action (Sec. 2).
  • Authorizes an individual to file a civil action in circuit court for a violation of the provisions of this bill (Sec. 3).
