Title: Prohibits Abortions After 20 Weeks

Vote to pass a bill that prohibits abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits a physician from performing or attempting to perform an abortion on a woman if the fetus has reached a post-fertilization age of 20 weeks, except in the case of a medical emergency (Sec. 7).
  • Specifies that in the case of a medical emergency in which the fetus has reached a post-fertilization age of 20 weeks, a physician is required to perform the abortion in a manner that provides the best opportunity for the fetus to survive (Sec. 7). 
  • Classifies a violation of this bill as a Class 1 felony (Sec. 7). 
  • Authorizes the following individuals to bring a claim for damages against an individual who performs, or attempts to perform, an abortion in violation of this bill (Sec. 7):
    • The woman on whom an abortion was performed or induced; and 
    • The father of the aborted fetus, unless the pregnancy is the result of sexual assault or incest.
