Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that amends school immunization requirements.

Highlights:

  • Repeals the authorization of a parent to exempt his or her child from certain school immunizations due to personal beliefs (Sec. 1).
  • Specifies that the provisions of this bill do not apply to a student who is home-schooled or enrolled in an independent study program (Sec. 2).
  • Authorizes a student who submitted a statement of opposition to immunization prior to January 1, 2016 to remain enrolled in any public or private school or day care facility until the student enrolls into the next “grade span” (Sec. 2).
  • Defines “grade span” as the following educational checkpoints (Sec. 2):
    • Birth to preschool;
    • Kindergarten to grade 6; and
    • Grades 7 to 12.
  • Authorizes a school or institution to temporarily exclude a student if there is reasonable cause to believe that the student has been exposed to a disease and does not have documentation of immunization against the disease (Sec. 5).
