Vote to adopt a conference report that requires 100 percent of a utility company's electricity sales to be generated from renewable resources by the year 2045, effective July 1, 2015.

Highlights:

  • Requires a utility company that sells electricity for consumption to increase the percentage of energy generated from renewable sources according to the following standards (Sec. 2): 
    • 30 percent of its net electricity sales by December 31, 2020;
    • 70 percent of its net electricity sales by December 31, 2040; and
    • 100 percent of its net electricity sales by December 31, 2045.
  • Expands the list of circumstances that are considered outside the reasonable control of an electric utility company to include in the inability to acquire renewable electricity sufficient to meet the renewable portfolio standard beyond the year 2030, in a manner that is cost-effective in comparison to fossil fuels (Sec. 2).
