Vote to pass a bill that classifies administering sexual orientation conversion therapy to minors as professional misconduct, effective immediately.

Highlights:

• Classifies the administration of “sexual orientation change efforts” to individuals under 18 years of age as professional misconduct subject to penalties for violations (Secs. 2 & 3).

• Defines “sexual orientation change efforts” as any effort by a mental health professional that seeks to change an individual’s sexual orientation, including, but not limited to, the following efforts (Secs. 2 & 3):
• Efforts to change behaviors;
• Efforts to change gender identity or expressions; or
• Efforts to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attractions or feelings towards individuals of the same sex. 

• Exempts counseling for an individual seeking to transition from one gender to another, and psychotherapies that facilitate an individual’s coping, social support, and identity exploration and development (Secs. 2 & 3).
