Vote to pass a bill that amends safety belt laws.

Highlights:

• Prohibits a law enforcement officer from pulling over and citing an individual solely for a safety belt violation, if the individual has not previously been issued a warning about the violation (Secs. 1 & 2). 
• Classifies safety belt violations as a primary offense, punishable by a fine of up to $45 (Secs. 1 & 2).
• Authorizes a court to waive an individual’s fine for a violation of the provisions of this bill if the individual completes a 30 minute course approved by the Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety (Sec. 2).
• Specifies that the provisions of this bill will take effect immediately, and expire on July 1, 2018 (Sec. 2).
