Vote to pass a bill that amends local government annual reporting procedures to include speeding fine revenue.
Highlights:
- Requires a unit of local government to identify the total annual amount of speeding fine revenue in the annual report to the Department of Community Affairs (Sec. 1).
- Reduces from 40 to 35 percent the portion of a law enforcement agency’s budget that may be provided by fines for speeding violations without triggering the rebuttable presumption that the agency is employing speed detection devices for purposes other than public health, welfare, and safety (Sec. 2).
- Increases from 17 to 20 miles per hour the speeding violation amount that must occur for the related fine to be exempt from the calculation of total agency speeding fine revenue (Sec. 2).
