Title: Encourages School Districts to Report Alleged Criminal Actions of Teachers

Vote to pass a bill that encourages a school district to report alleged criminal actions by a teacher to the State Board of Education, effective July 1, 2015.

Highlights:

  • Specifies that a superintendent’s recommendation to dismiss a teacher which includes grounds that could form the basis of criminal charges sufficient to result in the denial of his or her certificate should be forwarded to the State Board of Education (Sec. 1).
  • Requires a copy of the recommendation to be forwarded to the teacher subject to the recommendation if a copy is forwarded to the board (Sec. 1).
  • Prohibits an individual from using a district’s failure to forward the recommendation to the board as the basis for a claim or action against the school or its representatives (Sec. 1).
  • Requires the teacher subject to the recommendation to be notified if a request for a copy of the recommendation is submitted to the board (Sec. 1).
