Title: Amends Class Size-Related Funding Calculation

Vote to pass a bill that amends the class size-related funding calculation and submits the changes to the voters.

Highlights:

  • Specifies that funding for kindergarten through third grade average class sizes shall be proportionate to a school district’s actual average class size, up to 17 students (Sec. 2).
  • Amends the general education average class size upon which the minimum allocation for a school is partially based as follows (Sec. 2):
    • Existing law:
      • Grades K-3 have 17.00 students per teacher; and
      • Grades 4-12 have 25.00 students per teacher.
    • New law:
      • Grades K-3 have 17.00 students per teacher;
      • Grades 4-6 have 27.00 students per teacher;
      • Grades 7-8 have 28.53 students per teacher; and
      • Grades 9-12 have 28.74 students per teacher.
  • Amends the general education average class size upon which the minimum allocation for a school at which at least 50 percent of the students were eligible for free and reduced-price meals in the previous year is based as follows (Sec. 2):
    • Existing law:
      • Grades K-3 have 15.00 students per teacher;
      • Grade 4 has 22.00 students per teacher; and
      • Grades 5-12 have 23.00 students per teacher.
    • New law:
      • Grades K-3 have 17.00 students per teacher;
      • Grades 4-6 have 27.00 students per teacher;
      • Grades 7-8 have 28.53 students per teacher; and
      • Grades 9-12 have 28.74 students per teacher.
  • Requires the Secretary of State to submit the provisions of this bill to the voters for adoption and ratification, or rejection, at the next general election (Sec. 5).
