Vote to pass a bill that prohibits a college or university from denying benefits to a religious student organization.

Highlights:

• Prohibits a “postsecondary educational institution” from taking any action or enforcing any policy that would deny a religious student association any benefits available to other student associations (Sec. 2).
• Defines “postsecondary educational institution” as a public university, municipal university, community college, or technical college (Sec. 1).
• Defines “benefit” as recognition, registration, the use of facilities and institutional channels of communication, and access to funding resources available to other student organizations (Sec. 1).
• Prohibits a postsecondary educational institution from discriminating against a religious student association based on the association’s requirement that either the leaders or members of the association meet the following criteria (Sec. 2):
• They adhere to and comply with the association’s sincerely held religious beliefs;
• They comply with the association’s sincere religious standards of conduct; and
• They are committed to furthering the association’s religious missions.
• Authorizes a student or religious student association to take legal action against a postsecondary educational institution if they are denied benefits or discriminated against by the institution (Sec. 3).
