Title: Requires the Use of Test Scores in Teacher Evaluations

Vote to pass a bill that requires the use of student test scores in teacher and principal performance evaluations.

Highlights:

  • Requires a public school district to use scores from federally-mandated statewide student assessments for the purpose of teacher and principal performance evaluations, beginning no earlier than the 2017-2018 school year, if the following criteria are met (Sec. 1):
    • The relevant assessment is determined to be a valid and reliable tool for measuring student growth; and
    • The use of relevant federally mandated statewide assessments as a measure of student growth is determined to strengthen and not undermine the existing teacher evaluation system.
  • Specifies that the use of standardized test scores as a factor of student growth data applies to reading, language arts, and mathematics classes (Sec. 1).
