Title: Establishes the Board of Trustees of the Alabama Community College System

Vote to pass a bill that establishes the Board of Trustees of the Alabama Community College System to assume all responsibilities regarding community and technical colleges in the state, effective immediately.

  • Establishes the Board of Trustees of the Alabama Community College System and transfers all responsibilities from the Board of Education regarding community and technical colleges, junior colleges, and trade schools to the new Board of Trustees (Sec. 3).
  • Specifies that the Board of Trustees shall be composed of following members (Sec. 3):
    • The Governor, who will act as president of the board;
    • Seven members, from each of the state’s seven congressional districts, appointed by the Governor;

  • Prohibits a member of the Board of Trustees from making a contribution to the Governor’s campaign fund (Sec. 3).
  • Prohibits the Governor from appointing an individual who has made a contribution to the Governor’s campaign fund to the Board of Trustees (Sec. 3).
  • Requires all appointees to the Board of Trustees to be confirmed by the Senate before beginning a term in office (Sec. 3).
