Title: Amends the School Year Start Date

Vote to concur with House amendments and pass a bill that prohibits school districts from beginning the academic year before August 23rd.

Highlights:

  •  Specifies that the school calendar for each school district and accredited nonpublic school shall begin no sooner than August 23rd (Sec. 2).
  • Authorizes the board of directors of a school district and the authorities in charge of an accredited nonpublic school to apply to the Department of Education for permission to maintain a year round school calendar at an attendance center or a school for students in prekindergarten through 8th grade (Sec. 2).

  • Specifies that the board of directors and the authorities in charge of a public or nonpublic school applying for a year round school calendar must submit their application for approval by November 1 of the preceding year (Sec. 2).
