Title: Authorizes New High School Districts

Vote to pass a bill that authorizes certain elementary school districts to vote to expand and establish high school districts.

Highlights:

  • Authorizes qualified voters in an elementary school district with at least 1,000 students to pass a resolution to establish a high school district for the sole purpose of expanding into a K-12 district (Sec. 1).
  • Requires a newly-established high school and an existing high school district to negotiate an “equitable” division of assets currently held in the existing district, including, but not limited to, the following assets (Sec. 1):
    • All buildings;
    • All buses;
    • All textbooks; and
    • All computer equipment.
  • Requires taxpayers in the new district to pay the transitional costs necessary to allow students in the current school district to continue to attend their current high school while the new school district and high school are created (Sec. 1).
