Title: Prohibits Discrimination Based on Sexual Orientation
Vote to pass a bill that prohibits certain entities from discriminating against an individual for their sexual orientation, gender identity, or religious beliefs.
Prohibits an employer from refusing to hire, promote, or continue employment with an individual due to their sexual orientation or gender identity (Sec. 5):
Prohibits discriminating against an individual due to the individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity during the renting, selling, or issuance of housing (Sec. 15).
Specifies that the provisions in this bill do not apply to an owner of a dwelling or residence if it belongs to, or is in affiliation, with a non-profit, charitable, or religious organization (Sec. 14).
Prohibits an employer from terminating or otherwise punishing an employee as a result of the employee expressing his or her religious beliefs in the workplace in a “reasonable, non-disruptive, non-harassing” way, unless the expression is in direct conflict with the essential business-related interests of the employer (Sec. 10).
Prohibits an employer from terminating, demoting, refusing to hire, or otherwise punishing an employee as a result of activities that occur outside of the workplace, including, but not limited to, the employee’s religious, political, or personal convictions, unless the activity is in direct conflict with the essential business-related interests of the employer (Sec. 10).
Prohibits a labor organization from discriminating against an individual due to the individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity (Sec. 5).
Specifies that the provisions in this bill supersede any ordinance or legal action by a local or state governmental entity (Sec. 2).
