Vote to pass a bill that establishes the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards.

Highlights:

 

  • Establishes a 24-member College and Career Readiness Commission to make recommendations to and assist the State Board of Education (Sec. 1).

  • Establishes the Mississippi College and Career Readiness Standards, which are designed to help a high school student obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to transition to postsecondary education and acquire a sustainable career (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the State Board of Education to consult with the College and Career Readiness Commission to adopt these readiness standards by January 1, 2016 (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the board to remove the Common Core copyright and any references to the Common Core Standards from the adopted readiness standards (Sec. 1).

  • Requires the State Board of Education to withdraw from the multi-state Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College & Careers (PARCC) consortium, effective immediately (Sec. 1).

  • Specifies that beginning with the 2015-2016 school year, the Department of Education will not require school districts to administer the multi-state PARCC test for student promotion to grade levels or for High School graduation purposes (Sec. 2).

  • Prohibits personally identifiable data on students or their families from being collected or shared with the Federal government without parental consent, or for advertising purposes, effective July 1, 2015 (Sec. 1).
