Title: Increases Minimum Wage

Vote to pass a bill that increases the hourly minimum wage effective July 1, 2015.

Highlights:

  • Increases the hourly minimum wage from $8.25 to $9.00 beginning July 1, 2015 and increases it by $0.50 annually until it reaches $11.00 on July 1, 2019 (Sec. 10).
  • Establishes a tax credit for employers with fewer than 50 employees, effective July 1, 2015 (Sec. 5).
  • Specifies that the tax credit does not apply to employers who pay their employees more than $0.75 above the minimum wage of that year (Sec. 5).
  • Specifies that the minimum wage is an exclusive power and function of the state and shall not be denied or altered by any person or organization, except the City of Chicago (Sec. 10).
  • Specifies that the City Council of Chicago may regulate the hourly minimum wage of their citizens provided the following conditions are met (Sec. 10):
    • The hourly minimum wage is no greater than $13.00 after July 1, 2019; and
    • The hourly minimum wage is no greater than the amount calculated by the Commissioner of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection of the City of Chicago by June 1, 2018.
