Vote to pass a bill that authorizes undocumented immigrants to receive professional licenses.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits the Department of Consumer Affairs from denying licensure based on an individual’s immigration or citizenship status beginning no later than January 1, 2016 (Sec. 2).
  • Requires an individual applying for a license from any board subject to the jurisdiction of the Department of Consumer Affairs, the State Bar and Bureau of Real Estate to provide either their taxpayer identification number or social security number (Sec. 1).
  • Authorizes physicians who are not citizens of the United States to do the following activities (Secs. 3 & 5):
    • Apply for a physician or surgeon certificate; and
    • Apply to fellowship programs.
  • Authorizes physicians who are not citizens of the United States and are undocumented to apply for medical school and participate in the professional activities of the medical school (Sec. 4).
