Vote to concur with Senate amendments and pass a bill that requires suicide prevention training for mental health professionals, effective January 1, 2016.

Highlights:

  • Requires psychologists, marriage and family therapists, educational psychologists, professional clinical counselors, and clinical social workers, who will begin graduate study on or after January 1, 2016, to complete at least 15 hours of coursework in suicide assessment, treatment, and management in order to receive a license (Secs. 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9).
  • Requires a licensee or applicant for licensure as a psychologist, marriage and family therapist, educational psychologist, professional clinical counselor, or clinical social workers, who began graduate study before January 1, 2016, to take a 6-hour continuing education course in suicide assessment, treatment, and management in order to renew his or her license (Secs. 2, 4, 6, 8 & 10).
