Title: Amends Charter School Laws

Vote to pass a bill that amends the approval process for charter schools, effective July 1, 2014.

Highlights:

  • Requires the State Department of Education to establish regulations for the information regarding the impact of a proposed charter school used during the application process with the approval of the State Board of Education no later than October 31, 2014 (Sec. 1).
  • Authorizes the approving authority to place the certain conditions for the approval of a charter school application based on the impact of the proposed charter school that include, but are not limited to, the following conditions (Sec. 1):
    • Restrictions or prohibitions on geographic location;
    • Restrictions or prohibitions on programmatic offerings;
    • Restrictions or prohibitions on academic focus; and
