Vote to pass a bill that establishes the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum as an independent state agency.

Highlights:

• Establishes the “Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum” as an independent state agency, whereas existing law requires the museum be a unit of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (Sec. 10). 

• Establishes the “Board of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum”, with members appointed by the governor, and whose responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following responsibilities (Secs. 15, 20 & 25):
• To hire agents and employees;
• To establish programs that support the mission and goals of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum; and
• To appoint an executive director to “execute and discharge the powers and duties” of the library.
