Vote to pass a bill that reduces the frequency in which most teacher evaluations must occur.

Highlights:

• Prohibits a teacher from being annually evaluated under the following conditions (Sec. 1): 
• If the teacher has obtained an evaluation rating of “highly effective” he or she will be evaluated not more than once every 4 years; and
• If the teacher has obtained an evaluation rating of “effective” he or she will be evaluated not more than once every 3 years.

• Requires a teacher who has changed certification to be evaluated in the following year (Sec. 1). 

• Requires annual evaluations of a teacher during his or her first 3 years in a district (Sec. 1).

• Authorizes the Department of Education to modify the teacher evaluation system unless the modifications “jeopardize” current funding from the Race to the Top grant received by the state (Sec. 1).
