Vote to pass a bill that prohibits discriminatory insurance increases for firearm owners, effective July 1, 2014.

Highlights:

  • Prohibits a property or automobile insurer from refusing to issue, renew, cancel or increase the rate of an insurance policy based on the lawful use, possession, or ownership of a firearm (Sec. 1). 
  • Prohibits an insurer from disclosing the lawful ownership or possession of firearms to a third party, except in the following conditions (Sec. 1):
    • The disclosure is consented to by the applicant or the insured; 
    • The disclosure is necessary to adjust a claim; or
    • The disclosure is necessary to quote, bind or continue coverage.
