Title: Amends Selection Process for Judicial Nominating Commission

Vote to pass a bill that amends the member selection process for the Judicial Nominating Commission, effective November 1, 2014.

Highlights:

  •  Specifies that 6 attorney members of the Judicial Nominating Commission shall be appointed as follows (Sec. 1):
    • For an initial term of 2 years:
      • 1 appointed from Congressional District 1 by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate; and
      • 1 appointed from Congressional District 2 by the President.
    • For an initial term of 4 years:
      • 1 appointed from Congressional District 3 by the Speaker of the House of Representatives; and
      • 1 appointed from Congressional District 4 by the Speaker.
    • For an initial term of 6 years:
      • 1 appointed from Congressional District 5 by the President; and
      • 1 appointed from Congressional District 6 by the Speaker.
  • Requires each appointed attorney member to serve a 6 year term after the expiration of his or her initial term (Sec. 1).
  • Specifies that the 6 attorney members shall be members of the Oklahoma Bar Association (Sec. 1).
  • Specifies that all appointed attorney member positions of the current Commission shall be deemed vacant, effective immediately, and requires the President and Speaker to make initial appointments for attorney members of the Commission within 30 days of the effective date of this bill (Sec. 1).
